Wiper Carriage Assy

Caution / 注意
  • This procedure includes a step to remove the Head Unit, but there is no need to perform "5010101 Head Unit Before Replacement" in the Service Support mode. Turn off the power while the product is in normal mode and start the work.
  • Even if the power is turned off while the product is in normal mode, ink will not drip when the ink supply tube is removed from the Head Unit.
    However, ink may drip when removing the Head unit, so be sure to perform the disassembly and reassembly work according to the procedure described.

  1. Open the Power Supply Box.

    1. Remove the 2 screws and remove the Left Cover Upper (A).
      • : 3x10DW
    2. Remove the two screws and slide the Left Cover Sub Upper (A) in the direction of the arrow to remove it.

    3. Remove the 4 screws and remove the right cover sub (A).
      • : 3x10DW
    4. Pull out the C1 cassette (A). (about 100mm)
    5. Pull out the C2 cassette (A). (about 100mm)
    6. Remove 2 screws and remove the Left Cover Lower (A) in the direction of the arrow.

    7. Remove 1 screw and slide the rear cover (A) in the direction of the arrow to remove it.

      Assembly / 組み立て

      Align the 5 hooks on the rear cover with the 5 holes on the main unit and attach it.

    8. Remove 1 screw and remove the Left Cover Sub Lower (A) in the direction of the arrow.

    9. Remove 4 screws.


      • : 4x8D
    10. Slightly lift the board box (A) to release the hook.
    11. Open the board box (A).

      • By hooking the hook (A) of the board box to the hole in the main body, the position of the board box is stabilized, making it easier to work.
      • Do not close the circuit board box while hooking the hook (A) on the main unit. The frame may be deformed.

  2. Make the timing belt and driven pulley of the wiper visible.

    1. Release the 2 dowels with a flathead screwdriver and remove the Front Cover (A).
    2. Remove one screw, and remove the front cover upper (A) in the direction of the arrow while pressing the hook.

    3. Slide the front decorative cover upper (A) in the direction of the arrow to remove it.
    4. Release the hook and remove the Front Decorative Cover Lower (A) in the direction of the arrow.
    5. Remove 6 screws and remove the Front Right Cover (A).

    6. Remove 4 screws and remove the Front Left Cover (A).

  3. Remove the FD Stacker Assy.

    1. Remove the two cables (A) from the connectors.
    2. Lift the FD frame (A), release the two hooks, and remove it to the left side of the product.
    3. Remove the screw that secures the ground wire (A).

    4. Route the ground wire (A) around the guide.
    5. Remove the 4 screws that secure the FD stacker Assy (A).

    6. Hold the position shown in the figure and remove the FD stacker Assy (A).


      Assembly / 組み立て

      Attach the FD stacker Assy  (B) along the rail of the FD stacker guide (A).

  4. Remove the Print head.


    1. Remove 1 screw, slide the FD inner cover lower (A) in the direction of the arrow, release the 2 hooks, and remove it.

      Align the 2 hooks with the 2 holes in the body frame, and attach the FD inner cover lower (A).

    2. Prepare the protective material (for temporary placement of the Head Unit) included with the Wiper Carriage Assy.

    3. Rotate the gear (D) of the Head Lifting Motor Assy (C) in the direction of the arrow until the bearing (B) of the Head Unit (A) is visible from the guide rail.


    4. Loosen the 4 screws that secure the ink supply tubes of the printhead.



      Assembly / 組み立て

      If there is ink on the product during assembly, wipe it off with cloth etc.

      The four screws that secure the ink supply tubes cannot be removed because they have retaining parts.



    5. Attach two protective caps (A) to the connection parts of the ink supply tubes.

      Note / 補足
      • Attach the protective cap as shown below.



    6. Insert the ink tube (A) into the frame (B) and FD cover (C).
    7. Hang the protective cap (D) on the FD cover (C) and secure the ink tube (A).

      • Make sure that the FD cover tab (B) is inserted between the left and right ink tubes (A) shown in the figure below.
      • A black protective cap is used in this manual, but a white protective cap is supplied at the repair site.
    8. Remove the cable (A) from the connector.


    9. Release the cable (A) from the two clamps and the guide.


      Assembly / 組み立て
      • The Head USB Cable should be routed according to the following procedure.
        1. Straighten the head USB cable (A) and make sure it is not twisted.
        2. Pass the Head USB cable through the guide and two clamps.
          When doing this, align the triangle mark (A) stamped on the frame with the cable tie (C) of the cable (B).
        3. Straighten the Head USB cable again and make sure it is not twisted.

        4. Connect the Head USB Cable to the connector and insert it into the hook.

          Caution / 注意
          • Make sure the Head USB Cable (A) is not twisted.
          • If there is any twisting, the cable may break during product operation.
          • Place the USB cable on top of the harness.

            * When the harness is on the top, stress is applied to the USB cable.


    10. Remove the cable (A) from the connector.
    11. Remove the cable (A) from the clamp.
    12. Attach the clamp (A) included with the new head unit to the hole in the frame.
    13. Secure the two cables (B) to the clamps (A).
    14. Pull the lever to release the hook, slide the duct (A) in the direction of the arrow, and remove the duct (A) from the air port (B).


      Assembly / 組み立て
      • If you forget to attach the duct, a Fatal Error will occur.
      • Re-disassembly is required to eliminate the fatal error, so be careful not to forget to install it.

      • When installing, make sure that the triangle marks on the labels affixed to the duct (A) and the air vent (B) match.


      Note / 補足

      Depending on the time of manufacture, the duct is fixed with screws (no access required for repair).

    15. To prevent ink leakage, attach the four tubes (B) included with the new head unit to the joints of the head unit (A).

    16. Remove the head unit (A) upwards.


      Caution / 注意
      • When removing the head unit, be careful not to splash ink on the head unit. Be especially careful not to get ink on the connector part (A) and around the joint (B).
      • Check the following points when moving the head unit.
        • Do not tilt the head unit left or right.
        • Do not tilt the head unit forward or backward.

      Hold the Head Unit with both hands as shown below.

      Assembly / 組み立て
      • Place the removed Head Unit on the supplied protective material No. 3.
      • The head unit must be installed by aligning the 4 bearings with the 4 rails on the main unit.
        • Head unit bearings positions
        • Main unit rails positions (front side)
        • Main unit rails positions (rear side)
          Since it is difficult to see the position when installing, it is easier to align the position using the ruled lines (A) on the frame as a guide.
        • When installing the head unit (A), align the head unit (A) with the angle of the FD stacker guide (B) and install it directly below. At this time, be careful not to damage the nozzle surface of the head unit (A).
        • Check that the head unit bearings are visible through the guide rails.

  5. Remove the Wiper Drive Motor Assy.

    1. Release the tube and cable from the blue frame part.
    2. Remove the cables from the 2 connectors.
    3. Remove 1 screw and remove the Wiper Drive Motor Assy (A).

      Assembly / 組み立て
      • When assembling the wiper drive motor Assy, check the installation status as follows.
        • Make sure that the projection (B) of the wiper drive motor Assy (A) is correctly inserted into the frame wiper Assy (C).
        • There is no gap between the wiper drive motor Assy (A) and the frame wiper Assy (B).

  6. Remove the Wiper Cleaner.

    1. Rotate the cap drive motor dial (A) counterclockwise (Down direction) to lower the cap unit to the limit.
    2. Remove 2 screws and remove the Wiper Ink Collector Assy (A).

      Caution / 注意
      • When the wiper ink collection assembly is removed, it must be placed in a zipped plastic bag (A) because ink may drip from the wiper ink collection assembly.
      • Waste ink may accumulate inside the Wiper Ink Collector Assy (The whole wall and the circled areas in the figure below). Wipe up if necessary.
      • Insert the protrusion of the Wiper Ink Collector Assy into the opening (A) of the frame, and fix it so that the waste ink absorption needle faces upward.

      • To prevent damage to the Wiper Ink Collector Assy, it is necessary to assemble with Wiper Assy (A) moved to the far side (inside the product). Rotate the wiper drive gear shown in the figure below anticlockwise until the wiper stops moving.

    3. Remove 3 screws.

    4. Slide the Wiper cleaner (A) in the direction of the arrow to release the hook and remove it.

      Caution / 注意
      • Waste ink may be accumulated in the 2 parts shown in the figure below. Check for waste ink before removing, and wipe off if necessary.


      Assembly / 組み立て
      • When installing the Wiper cleaner (A), fix the Wiper cleaner (A) with three screws while holding it in the direction of the arrow.

      • After installing the Wiper Ink Collector Assy (A), check if the Wiper Ink Collector Assy (A) can be moved by light force by moving the part shown in the figure below by hand.

  7. Remove the Wiper Carriage Assy.

    1. Release the cable (A) from clamp (B).
    2. Remove the cable (B) from the HP Sensor, Wiper (A).
    3. Rotate the gear (A) in the direction of the arrow to move the Wiper Carriage Assy to the front side of the product.
    4. Remove the Flange pulley (A), and remove the timing belt (B) from the gear.

      Assembly / 組み立て
      • When installing the timing belt to the gears, install it while rotating the gears.
      • After attaching the timing belt (A) to the gear, open the D1 Cover and check to see if the timing belt (A) is twisted or caught.
        If the timing belt (A) is twisted or caught, remove the timing belt (A) and reinstall it.

      • Install a new flange pulley included in the Wiper Carriage Assy package.
    5. Remove 3 screw and remove the Frame Wiper Assy (A).
    6. Remove the timing belt (B) from the pulley (A) on the front side.
    7. Remove the Wiper Carriage Assy from the rear side of the product.

      Assembly / 組み立て
      • When installing a new Wiper Carriage Assy, follow the procedure below to attach the Wiper Unit to the Wiper carriage and then attach the assembly to the product.
        1. Place the hex nut (B) in the groove of the Wiper carriage (A).
        2. Install the Wiper Unit (A) to the Wiper carriage (B) while engaging the protrusion of the Wiper Unit (A) with the recess of the Wiper carriage (B).
        3. Tighten the one screw to secure the Wiper carriage (A) and Wiper Unit (B).
      • Follow the procedure below to install the Wiper Carriage Assy.
        1. Attach the Wiper Carriage Assy (A) to be replaced to the guide rail (B).
        2. Pass the timing belt (A) inside the product.

          Caution / 注意

          When passing the timing belt, be careful not to twist the timing belt.

        3. Put the timing belt (B) on the pulley (A) on the front side.
      Note / 補足

      Operation check after assembly

      • After turning on the printer, be sure to open and close the front cover to perform the initialization operation.
        Depending on the firmware version of the printer, a fatal error (CAP HP undetectable error) may occur when the power is turned on.
        If a fatal error occurs, restart the printer.
      • After performing the initialization operation, confirm that there are no errors and that the wiper carriage is in the standby position.
