Drive Gear Assy (EP-C800 Series)

Adjustment / 調整
  • When replacing this part, you need to run the menu from the service support mode before replacing it. Refer to the following to execute.
  • When replacing/removing the CR Unit, refer to the following pages and make sure to perform the specified operations including the required adjustments.
  • If print quality is poor (e.g., ink blotting) after removing the Main Frame Assy, check the following page and perform the work including the specified adjustments, which may improve print quality.
  • If print quality is poor (e.g., ink blotting) after removing the Print Head, check the following page and perform the work including the specified adjustments, which may improve print quality.

  1. Remove the Rear Unit (A) in the direction of the arrow while pressing the buttons inward.
  2. Open the ASF Cover (A) and remove the two screws securing the Rear Housing Assy (B).

  3. Remove the four screws that secure the Rear Back Cover (A).

  4. Remove the Rear Back Cover (A) downward.


    Assembly / 組み立て

    Attach the two dowels of the Rear Back Cover (A) to the positioning holes on the Housing Left (B) and the Housing Right (C).
  5. Remove the Rear Upper Cover Assy (A) in the direction of the arrow.

    Insert the four tabs of the Rear Upper Cover Assy (A) to the positioning holes of the Housing ASF (B).
  6. Remove the two screws securing the Housing ASF (A).

  7. Open the Printer Cover (A) and remove the four screws, and then remove the Housing ASF (B).

  8. Remove the Printer Cover (A) upward.
  9. Remove the three screws that secure the Housing Left (A).

  10. Remove the two screws that secure the Housing Left (A).

  11. Lift the Housing Left (A) to release the two hooks each on the front side and rear side of the Housing Left (A), and then remove the Housing Left (A).

    Assembly / 組み立て

    Insert the four tabs on the Housing Left (A) to the positioning holes of the Ink Supply Unit (B).
  12. Disengage the hook, and remove the Maintenance Box Cover (A).
  13. Remove the three screws that secure the Housing Right (A).

  14. Remove the two screws that secure the Housing Right (A).

  15. Lift the Housing Right (A) to release the two hooks on the front side of the Housing Right (A), then remove the Housing Right (A).

    Insert the four tabs of the Housing Right (A) to the positioning holes on the Ink Supply Unit (B).
  16. Remove the seven screws and remove the Housing Top (A).

  17. Remove the two screws securing the Cable Guide (A).

    When removing the screws, if the screwdriver interferes with the ADF/SCN Unit, use a stubby screwdriver.
  18. Peel off the CRCM FFC (B) from the CRCM FFC Sheet (A).
  19. Peel off the double-sided tape at two locations and then remove the CRCM FFC Sheet (A).
  20. Disconnect the cables (B) from the connector (CN20, CN51, CN56) of the Relay Board (A).
  21. Remove the acetate tape (A), and release the cable (B) from the two guides.
  22. Disconnect the two cables (B) from the connectors (CN74, CN80) of the Main Board (A).
  23. Remove the two screws, and release the ground wire (A) from the slit to remove it.

    Assembly / 組み立て

    Attach the ground wire with the terminal (A) oriented as shown below.
  24. Move the Cable Guide as shown below.
  25. Disconnect the cables (B) from the connectors (CN51, CN56) on the Relay Board (A).


  26. Release the solenoid cable (B) and Rear ASF Paper Detection Sensor cable (C) from the Cable Guide (A).

    Assembly / 組み立て
    • Route the solenoid cable (A) through the five hooks on the Cable Guide (B).
    • Route the Rear ASF Paper Detection Sensor cable (A) through the three hooks on the Cable Guide (B).

  27. Remove the four screws and then remove the Rear ASF Unit (A).

  28. Remove the two screws, then remove the PS Ground Plate (A).

    Assemble ensuring that screw types are correct.
  29. Release the Rear ASF Sensor cable (B) from the three hooks of the Cable Guide (A).
  30. Release the cables (B) from the slit of the Cable Guide (B).
  31. Remove the screw securing the AC Inlet (A).

  32. Release the FFC (B) from three hooks on the Rear ASF Upper Guide Assy (A).

  33. Remove the four screws, then remove the Rear ASF Upper Guide Assy (A).

    Assembly / 組み立て

    First, insert the AC inlet (A) into the hole.
  34. Disconnect the FFCs (A) and cables (B) from the connectors (CN2, CN9, CN51, CN55, CN609) on the Main Board.
  35. Disconnect the FFCs (A) and cable (B) from the connectors (CN3, CN67, CN66, CN68, CN41, CN8) on the Main Board.


    Check Point / チェックポイント

    Release the connector (CN41) on the Main Board by lowering the connector lock in the direction of the arrow.
  36. Disconnect the cable (A) from the connector (CN802) on the Main Board.
  37. Disconnect the FFCs (A) and cables (B) from the connectors (CN50, CN52, CN72, CN73, CN75, CN77) on the Main Board.
  38. Remove the two pieces of double-sided tape for the FAX FFC (B) from the MB Shield Plate Upper (A), and remove the ferrite core (C) from the FAX FFC (B).
  39. Release the PE Sensor Cable (B) from the clamp (A).
  40. Peel off the double-sided tape of the Relay FFC (B) from the MB Shield Plate Upper (A).

  41. Release the CR motor cable (B) from two clamps (A).

  42. Remove the five screws securing the Main Board Assy (A).

  43. Remove the two screws securing the Main Board Assy (A).

    Caution / 注意

    In the next step, be careful not to damage the PF Scale.
  44. Disengage the hole of the Main Board Assy from the hook of the CR Guide Frame, then remove the Main Board Assy upward.


    Assembly / 組み立て

    Affix the FFC (B) to connect to the Main Board Assy (A) connector (CN52) using double-sided tape at the positions in the figure below.
  45. Slide the CR Driven Pulley Assy (A) in the direction of the arrow to remove the CR Timing Belt (B) from the CR Driven Pulley Assy (A).
  46. Remove the Extension Spring (A), then remove the CR Driven Pulley Assy (B).

  47. Follow the steps below to unlock the carriage (CR).

    Check Point / チェックポイント

    If the carriage is already unlocked and the CR Unit (A) can move freely, as shown below, this step is not necessary.
    1. Release the FFC (A) from the three hooks.

    2. Rotate the gear (B) of the Ink System Unit (A) in the direction of the arrow, and move the CR Unit (C) to the left side.

      Caution / 注意

      When rotating the gear of the Ink System Unit, take extra care not to damage or disconnect the FFC by touching it.
  48. Remove the two screws, and then remove the Head Upper Cover (A).

  49. Remove the two screws, and remove the Ink Tube Joint Cover (A).

  50. Remove the film (A) from the hook and remove the Ink Tube Joint Cover (B).


    Assembly / 組み立て

    Set the film (B) under the rib of the Ink Tube Joint Cover (A).
  51. Remove the two Bind Screw3 x 12 (w/washer).


  52. Remove the Ink Supply Tube (A) by pulling it straight in the direction of the arrow.


    Check Point / チェックポイント

    Pull the end (A) of the Ink Supply Tube straight up while keeping it horizontal.
    To keep it horizontal, it is recommended to work by grasping the end of the Ink Supply Tube with both hands.
    Caution / 注意

    • Ink may spill from the Ink Supply Tube. Prepare waste cloths or similar in advance.

    • Never pull out the Ink Supply Tube at an angle, as ink leakage will occur if the tube is pulled out at an angle.


      The following illustrations show images of removing the Ink Supply Tube as seen from the front of the printer.

    Assembly / 組み立て

    When attaching the ink Supply Tube (A), insert the four nozzles into each of the four connection holes, and insert them all the way in.

  53. Remove the three Head Screw Assy.

    Tighten the screws in order given below.
  54. Remove the double-sided tape from the Head FFC Assy (A), and remove the Printhead (B).


    Caution / 注意

    Do not touch the nozzle surface of the Printhead.
  55. Disconnect the Head FFC Assy from the four connectors and remove the Printhead (B).


    Assembly / 組み立て

    • The correspondence between the four printhead connectors and the four Head FFC Assy FFCs is as below.

      • Head FFC Assy


      • Printhead
    • Install the Printhead in accordance with the following procedure.
    1. Ensure the Head FFC Assy (A) is as below.
    2. Connect FFC (1) and FFC (2) to the two connectors on the right side of the Printhead (A).
    3. Connect FFC (3) and FFC (4) to the two connectors on the left side of the Printhead (A).
    4. Install the Printhead (A) from the right side of the Printhead (A).
    5. Using double-sided tape, affix the Head FFC Assy (A) to the Printhead (B).
  56. Remove the screw and remove the Frame Plate (A).

    Assembly / 組み立て

    The washer (A) is attached with the screw shown below. Be sure to attach the washer (A) when tightening the screw.
  57. Release the Head FFC Assy (A) from the seven tabs on the Frame Base.

    Set the Ferrite Core (B) of the Head FFC Assy (A) in the point shown below.
  58. Slide the CR Driven Pulley Assy (A) in the direction of the arrow to remove the CR Timing Belt (B) from the CR Driven Pulley Assy.


  59. Remove the Extension Spring (A).
  60. Peel off the CSIC FFC (A) from the frame.
  61. Remove the three screws, then remove the Main Frame Assy (A).

    Assembly / 組み立て
    • Fix CSIC FFC (A) on the frame at the location shown in the figure below by using double-sided tape at two locations.
    • Route the CR Motor Cable (A) with reference to the figure below.

  62. Remove the two screw that secure the Ink Supply Tube (A).

  63. Remove the two Bind Screw2.5 x 25 (w/washer).

  64. Remove the Ink Tube (B) from the Tube Clamp (A).


    Caution / 注意

    In the following steps, ink may spill from the Ink Supply Tube. Prepare waste cloths or similar in advance.
    Assembly / 組み立て
    • At the marking point on the Ink Supply Tube (A), attach the Ink Supply Tube (A) to the Tube Clamp (B).
    • If the marking is not visible, refer to the figure below.

      • Length of (A): 87.5 ± 1 mm
  65. Remove the Tube Holder (A) while pressing the two hooks outward.
  66. Remove the screw that secure the Ink Supply Tube (A).

  67. Peel off the two-sided tape fixing the film (A).
  68. While avoiding Film (A), remove the Ink Supply Tube (B) in the direction of the arrow.


    Caution / 注意

    Never lift the part indicated by the red frame in the figure below, as ink may leak out.
    Check Point / チェックポイント

    When removing the Ink Supply Tube, be careful of the following points.

    • Always hold the Ink Supply Tube only by the parts on its end (A), which are indicated in the blue frames.
    • Pull the end (A) of the Ink Supply Tube straight up.
  69. Remove the two screws, then remove the Upper Cap Frame (A).

    • Secure the grounding cables (A) together with the screws.
    • Route the grounding cable (A) through the two hooks shown below.
  70. Remove the four screws, then remove the Ink Tube Holder Plate (A).

    When attaching the Ink Tube Holder Plate (A), make sure to align the dowels and the positioning holes at two locations shown below.

  71. Remove 6 screws.

  72. Release the dowel by lifting up the rear side of the Paper Feed Unit (A), then remove the Paper Feed Unit (A) while avoiding collision with the interference point of the Housing Front (B).


    Caution / 注意

    Lift carefully so as not to touch the PF scale (A) on the left side of the main body. If you touch the PF scale, clean it with a clean cloth.
    Assembly / 組み立て

    When attaching the Paper Feed Unit (A), make sure to align the dowels and positioning holes at two locations shown below.
  73. Peel off the double-sided tape at 5 locations on the CRCM FFC (A).
  74. Remove the screw and remove the Guide Cover (A) in the direction of the arrow.

  75. Disconnect the cables (B) from the connectors (CN2, CN10, CN12, CN22, CN30, CN31, CN54) on the Relay Board (A).
  76. Release the cables from the five tabs on the Frame Base.

    Cables to be routed to A and B in the figure below are as follows.

    • Ink End Sensor (C/M) (CN30)
    • Ink End Sensor (Bk/Y) (CN31)
    • Ink Leak Sensor 2 (CN12)
    • Ink leak sensor 1,3,4 (CN54)
    • Temperature and Humidity Sensor(CN10)

    B
    • Drawer Connector (CN2)
    • Cover Open Sensor (CN22)

    If the old Ink Supply Unit is installed, refer to the following procedure. Note that the parts in the unit are not compatible between the old and new units.

    1. Disconnect the cables from the connectors (CN2, CN10, CN11, CN12, CN22, CN30, CN31, CN54, CN55) on the Relay Board (A).

    2. Release the cables from the five tabs on the Frame Base.

      B
      • Drawer Connector (CN2)
      • Cover Open Sensor (CN22)
  77. Pull the Decompression Pump Cable (A) out from the hole of the Frame Base, and remove the ferrite core (B).
  78. Disconnect the Decompression pump cable (A) from the connector of the Main Board.
  79. Remove the three screws that secure the Ink Supply Unit (A).

  80. Remove the two screws that secure the Ink Supply Unit (A).

  81. Remove the three screws that secure the Ink Supply Unit (A).

    Caution / 注意
    • In order to prevent injuries from the edge of the metal frame (A), use gloves when lifting the printer.
    • Lift carefully so as not to touch the PF scale (A) on the left side of the main body. If you touch the PF scale, clean it with a clean cloth.
  82. Lift to the position shown in the figure, and separate Printer (A) and Ink Supply Unit (B).
    • Right side
    • Left side


  83. Remove the three screws, then remove the Retard Roller Assy (A).

    When attaching the retard Roller Assy (A), make sure to align the positioning hole on the Retard Roller Assy with the dowels on the Frame Base (B).
  84. Remove the two screws that secure the ASF Drive Gear Assy (A).

    Caution / 注意

    Do not remove the ASF Drive Gear Assy (A) too far since the Cassette Paper Detection Sensor (B) is inside the ASF Drive Gear Assy (A), and the cable (C) is connected to the Cassette Paper Detection Sensor (B).
  85. Release the cable (A) from the two hooks and notch, then disconnect the cable (A) from the connector of the Cassette Paper Detection Sensor (B).
  86. Remove the ASF Drive Gear Assy (B) from the Drive Gear Shaft (A), then remove the ASF Drive Gear Assy (B).


  87. Remove the Drive Gear Shaft Holder (A) in the direction of the arrow.

    Assembly / 組み立て

    When installing the Drive Gear Shaft Holder (A), attach the dowel (C) of the Drive Gear Shaft Holder (A) to the hole on the Drive Gear Assy (B), then secure it with the hook (D).
  88. Remove the Drive Gear Shaft (A).


    Assembly / 組み立て

    Attach the gear with the narrow width side of the Drive Gear Shaft (A) to the Drive Gear Assy (B).
  89. Remove the two screws that secure the Drive Gear Assy (A).

  90. Peel off a piece of acetate tape (A), then remove the ferrite core (B) from the groove of the Frame Base (C).
  91. Remove the Drive Gear Assy (A).

    Assembly / 組み立て

    To avoid the ASF Motor cable (A) contacting the shaft of the ASF Motor (B), make sure to route the lead wire (black) of the ASF Motor cable (A) through the rib (C) on the Frame Base.
