Print Smudges

Symptom
  • Unexpected smudges can be seen somewhere (including back side) on printouts.

Suspected cause
  • Dirt on the reading face of the ADF/SCN Unit. (when copying)
  • Dirt transferred from feed path
  • Paper
  • Contact with nozzle surface (PG adjustment value deviation)
  • Dirt or damage of the Printhead nozzle surface
  • Dirt on the bottom surface of the CR Unit

Confirm the contamination adherence

Confirm the contamination adherence.

  • Check inside the product 
    Check that there is no noticeable dirt inside the product.
  • Check the platen
    Check that there is no noticeable dirt on the platen.
  • Check the feed path and feed roller surfaces
    Is not the feed path and the feed roller dirty?
  • CR side surface
    Check that there is no dust or ink adhered.

Nozzle condition is excellent?

Go to step 3

Clean the corresponding parts.

Note / 補足

If there are large ink deposits, check that there is no ink leaking.

Check the paper and settings

  • Check the paper
    Check that the paper is in an appropriate state (no curling).
  • Check the settings
    Check whether or not the paper settings are appropriate.

Are the paper state and paper settings appropriate?

Go to step 4
  • Change the paper or settings.

    Recommend to use the rubbing avoidance mode.

    If nozzle missing is not improved after performing the above, go to step 4.

Check the Inksystem Assy

Check the following point about the Inksystem Assy.

Caution / 注意

Execute 60143 CR Unlock & Power OFF from the Service Support mode in advance to release the CR lock before checking the Inksystem Assy.

[Confirmation details]

  1. Check the cap parts
    • Check that the cap surfaces are not dirty.
    • Rotated the Inksystem Assy gears by hand and check that the cap moves up and down, and also capped correctly in the capping state.
  2. Check the wiper parts
    • Check that there is not soiling or damage to the wiper parts
    • Rotate the Inksystem Assy gears by hand and check that the wipers move back and forth.
Go to step 5

If nozzle missing is not improved after performing the above, go to step 5.

Check the PG

Check that the PG is within the specified value range (1.60 ±0.05 mm).

Is the PG within the standard value?

Go to step 6

Perform " the Check the PG".

If the symptom continues to occur after performing the above, go to step 6.

Check the CR Unit and the nozzle surface of the Printhead

  • Check the nozzle surface of the Printhead
    • Any damaged or dirt on the nozzle surface of the Printhead?
  • Check the CR Unit
    • Is there no dirt on the bottom surface of the Printhead?

Is the result OK? (Does the symptom continue to occur?)

Contact the Epson Service Support department.
  • When the nozzle surface of the Printhead or the CR Unit bottom surface is dirty
    • Clean the nozzle surface or the CR Unit bottom surface.
  • When the nozzle surface of the Printhead is damaged

If the symptom is continued after performing the above, contact the Epson Service Support department.
